
I understand and agree that I am being given the opportunity to observe police operations and functions of the Hartford Police Department. In consideration of this opportunity, I knowingly and voluntarily recognize and assume any and all risks, whether known or unknown, associated with observing police operations, including but not limited to riding in a patrol vehicle or being present during law enforcement activities.
I hereby release, waive, and forever discharge the City of Hartford, the Hartford Police Department, and their respective officials, officers, employees, agents, and representatives from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, or causes of action, whether in law or equity, arising out of or related to any loss, damage, injury, or death that may be sustained by me while participating in or observing Hartford Police Department operations, including those arising from the ordinary negligence of the City of Hartford or its employees, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
I affirm that my participation in the Citizen Rider Program is entirely voluntary, and that this waiver is executed knowingly, willingly, and without coercion or duress.
Application Review & Scheduling Process
Upon receipt of this completed waiver and required identification, the applicant’s information will be forwarded to the Hartford Police Department Backgrounds Unit for a background check.
Once the background review is completed, and if approved, the Ride-Along Coordinator will contact the applicant to schedule a ride-along.
The Hartford Police Department reserves the right to deny or revoke any ride-along request at any time and for any reason. Ride-along requests are approved and scheduled at the sole discretion of the department and are prioritized based on operational needs, including but not limited to recruitment-related purposes.
Ride-Along Rules & Participant Requirements
Attendance Policy
- I may reschedule once with proper advance notice.
- Failure to appear (no-show) or a second cancellation may result in denial of future participation.
- I will notify the Ride-Along Coordinator as early as possible if I need to reschedule.
Attire and Appearance
I understand that I am representing myself as a potential applicant and that first impressions matter.
Acceptable attire includes:
- Jeans or khakis
- Polo shirt or plain shirt
- Clean sneakers or boots
The following are not permitted:
- Ripped or torn clothing
- Offensive or inappropriate graphics
- Sandals or slides
- Athletic shorts
The Hartford Police Department reserves the right to deny participation based on attire deemed inappropriate.
Phone Usage and Recording
- Phone must remain silent.
- No photographs, video, audio recording, or livestreaming.
- Limited use only when appropriate and approved by the assigned officer.
Conduct and Safety
- Bring a valid government-issued photo identification.
- No weapons.
- Follow all instructions from your assigned officer.
- You may be required to remain in the vehicle during certain calls.
- Any deviation from these guidelines may result in refusal or termination of the ride-along.
I understand that this is an observational experience only. My professionalism, demeanor, and conduct may be considered in any future application process.
